Abstract
European Union policy aimed at reducing the negative environmental impact of plastics includes both Directive (EU) 2019/904 on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment (the Single-Use Plastics Directive) and, since 2021, an EU own resource based on the mass of non-recycled plastic packaging waste. The structure of this own resource is laid down in Council Decision (EU, Euratom) 2020/2053, while the rules for its calculation and making available are specified in Council Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2021/770.
